Rad, MA, PsyD Time and Date: September 11, 2010 Location: Vienna, VA Subject: Psychology of peace. Outer peace starts with inner peace. Concepts like wholeness, shadow, ego, higher self, and self actualization will be discussed to bring the audience to a level of awareness of the evolved self for the process of self discovery and growth. There is so much separation in the world that we wonder if we can ever have a sense of global concord. United we can stand, divided we all will fall. Israelis and Palestinians, India and Pakistan, governments and insurgents, Protestants and Catholics, whites and blacks, labor and management, Muslim and West. All of these are examples of conflicts that are created by humans forming their identities. But these limited identities need to expand and include more people. This presentation examines: (1) the characteristics of various kinds of identities, (2) how particular qualities of collective identities contribute to a conflict becoming intractable, (3) what shapes collective identities, and (4) how such identities can be modified and assimilated to help transform and resolve intractable conflicts. It also discusses that the only us vs. them is moderation vs. radicalism. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Presenter: Roya R. Rad, MA, PsyD Time and Date: July 17 from 3-5 RSVP: Free to public Location: Ashburn Library - library.loudoun.gov 43316 Hay Road, Ashburn, VA - (703) 737-8100 Subject: Healthy vs. Unhealthy relationships. Subject: Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationship. When it comes to relationships, we are imperfect beings who will make mistakes. We need to find ways to learn from our mistakes, make reasonable compromises where our core values are not threaten, learn to respect our self and others, and make healthy connections rather than anxious attachments. A flourishing connection is mutually respectful, interdependent but not co dependent, and life enhancing. It gives you a feeling of being nurtured and cared for and you give the same feeling back. In order for a relationship to be healthy, the element of compatibility must be present. In addition, this session discusses what it means to be in an unhealthy relationship, one in which one experiences other’s constant acts of being disrespectful, uncommitted and abusive or obsessed. When one feels unsafe in a relationship, it is usually not healthy for the person to stay in that position without taking steps to solve the issue at hand. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
