| A Self Actualization study and support group for everyone. This is a group in the Northern Virginia area who are looking for a stimulating atmosphere to learn, to go through the continuous process of self growth, and to connect with similar minded individuals. This is where psychology becomes a bridge between the heart and the mind, the ego and the soul, or the lower self and the higher one. Psychology has been named the new-age spirituality due to its ability to get people to an internal state of equilibrium that some may call their heaven or inner peace. This is mainly done through emotional work as well as cognitive and behavioral one. Our next semester is starting on January 15 of 2012 and the focus of this semester which is 4-months in duration is emotional health. Emotional health is not the same as intellectual health. Many people may have an educational background that gives them some level of intellectual intelligence but may not be completely where they need to be with the emotional one. Individuals who have a high level of emotional intelligence or who are emotionally healthy are aware and in control of their emotions and their behavior. They experience a wide range of emotions mostly positive ones. They are able to cope with life’ s inevitable challenges, build strong relationships, and lead productive and fulfilling lives. When bad things happen, they’re able to bounce back and move on. They are more authentic and know what their life’s meaning and passion are, they also speak their truth. In addition, they are content with their life and live how they want to live not how others expect them to. They function based on their truth not a fear-based outdated belief, do not get stuck in something that is not healthy for their highest good, and function from their core. Other characteristics of individuals who are emotionally healthy or are working to get there: A zest for living and the ability to laugh and have fun. The ability to deal with stress and bounce back from adversity. A sense of meaning and purpose, in both their activities and their relationships. The flexibility to learn new things and adapt to change. A balance between work and play, rest and activity, etc. The ability to build and maintain fulfilling relationships. Self-confidence and high self-esteem.
